Supervised elevation: Compact, low cost magnetic encoders for elevator applications
Compact, low cost magnetic encoders for elevator applications
POSITAL encoders from the MAGNETOCODE series feature a CANopen interface and are optimally suited for elevator applications. The units support the CiA 417 lift profile which adds further objects that are crucial for elevator control to the standard CANopen protocol. The very cost-efficient design of the MAGNETOCODE encoders makes a replacement of incremental or absolute optical encoders attractive. Equipped with double ball bearings, which are suited for high loads and ensuring contact-free measurement, these sensors reliably execute lift position measurements demanding high availability. The encoders provide three modes of operation (cyclic, polled, and sync modes). Users can adjust the data transmission rate between 20 kBd and 1 MBd. Encoder parameters such as rotation direction, preset value, and resolution per revolution can be configured directly via CAN bus and stored in the nonvolatile memory. Additionally, two limit switches enable monitoring of a working area.

MCD rotary encoders are available as single-turn models, which register one revolution with a 12 bit maximum resolution, and as multi-turn models, which register up to 8,192 revolutions (13 bit) and more, if required. Due to the innovative MAGNETOCODE technology, the units do not require any battery: they reliably store absolute position values even in a voltage-free state and are instantly available after power supply. The magnetic functional principle not only enables a robust design and compact dimensions but also makes the encoders considerably less costly than optoelectronic models. The units, which are available as solid and hollow shaft versions, can be operated in rugged environments. With a diameter of merely 36.5 mm, they are suitable even for applications with limited installation space.
